Wins galore!!!

The end of the season is almost here, and the BMW-Bianchi women are going out with a bang!  The string of wins started on August 20th when Mandy Lozano won the opening prologue of the Georgia Cup omnium in Augusta, GA.  She went on to dominate the weekend, winning the Criterium on Saturday night, the Road Race on Sunday and, of course, the overall omnium!

Next came Nancy's incredible run at the US Master's Track Nationals where she took 4, count 'em, FOUR National Championship jerseys home!  Held at the Major Taylor velodrome in Indianapolis, Nancy went on to dominate the 35-39 age group taking every event except the match sprint and team sprint.  Nancy won the 2k pursuit, points race, 500m time trial and the team time trial.

Finally, the BMW-Bianchi women headed out to the North Carolina/South Carolina State Time Trial Championships for a 40k test.  Mandy surprised everyone by winning - an impressive feat considering that she claims not to know how to time trial!  Mandy finished in a very good sub-hour time, helped on to this time by her rabbit, I mean teammate Cara McCauley who started 30 seconds ahead.  Cara's excellent time trialing abilities helped her to a very close second place, and Tina Weiler confirmed her status as rouler by posting a very good 1:01 to take third.  Jessica Ables rounded out the top 4.  Carol Rockett, recovered from her collarbone break, won the Women's 40-44 time trial and celebrated her victory by having the pin removed from her collarbone!

This weekend, the team is heading to Gainsville, GA and Atlanta for the next installment of the Georgia Cup and the Atlanta 10k classic.

Reminder...
Our friend and club-mate Mark Ornitz was critically injured in a crash at the Hanes Park criterium on 7/31.  While he continues to make positive progress, he is still in a coma at the Winston-Salem Baptist Hospital Neuro unit.

The team would like everyone to keep Mark in their thoughts or prayers.  Mark is a wonderful person with a great passion for cycling.  We hope that he will heal quickly and make a full recovery. You can keep informed of Mark's condition and leave messages of support here in our BLOG.
