Double Wins in weekend Double Header
March 29th & 30th the team travelled to Greenville, NC to race in two criteriums promoted by East Carolina Velo Cycling Club. Saturday the 29th, after an early race set-up by Laura Weislo, Christy Blakely broke away from the field on the rainy, cold course and was eventually joined by a Team 19 racer. Melissa Wills spent time effectively patrolling the front, and eventually the two racers lapped the field. When the last lap came around, Blakely put the hammer down and clinched the victory. Wills and Weislo were 4th and 6th, respectively.
Sunday, the 30th, at the Greenville Plastic Surgery Criterium, the crowd witnessed an almost virtual repeat of Saturday - cold, rain, wind, and the BMW-Bianchi squad flying off the front. With just Wills and Blakely toeing the line, a tag team effort set Blakely up for a breakaway. She was joined by the same Team 19 racer as Saturday, and was able to handily outsprint her to clinch the team's second victory of the weekend. Wills placed third.
Other team appearances included a scarily thunderstormy Assualt on the Carolinas charity fundraiser in Brevard, NC on the 29th, and the annual Jefferson Cup road race in Charlottesville, VA on the 30th.
Look for the squad this weekend at the Rock Hill Bicycle Club's Spring Omnium in Rock Hill, SC. With the support of Hendrick BMW out of Charlotte, NC, several new BMWs will be on display at the criterium on Saturday, the 5th, with personnel available to answer any questions one may have about the vehicles.
